The 2004 Pingyao International Photography Festival

    The 2004 Pingyao International Photography Festival was held in Pingyao , Shanxi , China from September 16th to 22nd of 2004. 426 photographers from 23 countries and regions showed more than 8,850 pictures at over 180 exhibitions. Highlighting the theme of “Civilization & Development," the PIP showed the evolution of human civilization through the exhibitions of China , India , Egypt , Babylon , and Peru . Egyptian, Peruvian and French Embassies in China gave strong backing to the PIP. Hachette Filipacchi Media Group France , Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Limited and China Mobile Communications Corporation joined in the PIP for the first time, adding new flavor and vigor to the PIP. The Pingyao International Photography Museum had statues carved for Ansel Adams (USA) and Jiang Qisheng ( China ), and exhibited and collected their works. 51 photo trade agreements had been reached among photographers and photo agencies. The Organizing Committee of the PIP respectively held press conferences in Europe and Asia .

Hachette Filipacchi Media Group France, a publishing giant, cooperated for the first time with the PIP Organizing Committee to hold “ELLE ( China ) Fashion Photography Contest;” Phoenix Satellite Television Holdings Limited, a world-renowned multinational media enterprise, sponsored “Phoenix Cup China Contemporary Excellent Albums Contest;” China Mobile Communications Corporation also launched “2004 China Mobile Cup Outstanding Photographers Prize.”
