The 2005 Pingyao International Photography Festival


     The 2005 Pingyao International Photography Festival was held in Pingyao , Shanxi , China from September 16th to 22nd of 2005. On the 60th anniversary of the victory of China 's Resistance War Against Japanese Aggression and the victory of the world war against fascists, the theme ˇ°Peace & Progressˇ± of this PIP resonated well with photographers from all parts of the world. Valuable pictures of China 's resistance war against Japanese aggression and the world war against fascists attracted the attention of many viewers. 506 photographers from 29 countries and regions exhibited 11,370 pictures, the highest number since the PIP's inception. And the viewers made 130,000 visits in total. 76 photo trade deals had been reached among photographers and photo agencies. Pingyao International Photography Museum installed statues for Robert Capa (USA) and Long Chin-San ( Taiwan , China ), and showed and collected their works. Besides activities of previous four years, the PIP specially launched and organized teachers and students from 26 international colleges of photography including American New York Institute of Photography to show their works, so teachers and students from domestic and foreign universities and colleges could exchange and learn from one another on the platform of the PIP. In addition, DV exhibition was added for the first time, attracting a wider audience. The Organizing Committee of the PIP respectively held press conferences in the Headquarters of European Union , Belgium and India , drawing increased attention and attendance of a large number of photographic organizations and photographers. Among them were Magnum Photo Agency, Belgian Photographers' Association, Greek Photographers' Association, among others. And the President of the UNSRC Photographic Society also arrived in Pingyao and attended activities. Proving a complete success, the 2005 PIP was a most important year in its growth and created a new milestone in the PIP's development.
